KCU Takes Care of Business at Home
Grayson, KY - With the win in the annual game between Kentucky Christian University and St. Andrews University, the Knights captured the coveted KNIGHTS CLASSIC CUP. The 51-28 victory gives Kentucky Christian bragging rights for the year and the rights to keep the CUP on the KCU campus.
Following a scoreless first quarter, it was difficult to imagine a final score that contained 11 total touchdowns and a field goal in the remaining three quarters of play … but that is what happened. Kentucky Christian took a 21-14 lead into halftime and never looked back following the mid-game break. By outscoring St. Andrews 30-14 in the second half of the game, KCU secured the win.
Max Ward took all the snaps today and was 17-32 for 354 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. His long throw for the game was 79 yds on a TD to Davonte Williams. His other touchdown throw was a 20-yd pass to Ta’Len Rucker-Dailey coming at the end of the 2nd quarter. Ward entered the scoring column on the rushing side with a 3rd quarter, 12-yd scamper.
In addition to Ward’s rushing TD, Tyler has registered two TDs on runs of 3 & 4 yards. Joshua Traylor accounted for the final rushing score with a 45-yd 4th quarter run. Traylor gathered 62 rushing yards to lead KCU.
For the receivers, Williams led the home team with 127-yds (31.8 yds/catch) on four catches. Also hauling in four receptions, Karon Taylor ended the game with a 12.3 yds/catch average. Demetri Bose (51 yds), Rucker-Dailey (32 yds) and the duo of Keon Smith/Taylor (28 yds each) had the long receptions for the game.
Paul Rodriguez scored nine points on a field goal (33 yds) and six successful extra point attempts.
The Knights travel to Georgia next week to play the Point University Eagles. The opening kick is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
