Men's and Women's Track Plants Apple Trees on Campus
You may have seen them on your way to your dorm this week. What are they? Two (2) young sapling apple trees planted by KCU’s Men and Women’s Track Team.
The team recently competed at Ashland University near one of the homes of Johnny Chapman. Most will know Chapman by his nickname, Johnny Appleseed!
Johnny Appleseed planted apple orchards in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois from 1798 until his death in 1845. Over a hundred years later, in 1948, The Walt Disney Company produced an animated movie about the life of Johnny Appleseed.
Now, 200 years later, we have two trees on campus which are grafts from an original Johnny Appleseed tree on our own KCU campus. Perhaps someday we all may enjoy an apple pie or fresh apple cider at the cafeteria featuring our own Johnny Appleseed apples!
KCU Track Team members are Team Captain Tanner Hughes, Kayden Manasco, Jordan Miranda, Jaimie Rodriguez, Sam Van Huss, Ben Morris, Machi Davidson, Alexandria Williams, Sallie Robbins, and Beth Bishop. The team is coached by Kelly McNamara and Dodd Dixon.
