Waleska, GA – The Eagles earned two sweeps this weekend at home. First, the Eagles played Bluefield on Friday night and took the win with the final scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-18. Then, the following day, RU played Kentucky Christian and won 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-15). With two AAC wins, the Eagles now sit with a conference record of 4-0 and are 7-4 overall.
With the first match against Bluefield, the Eagles were on fire as they totaled 36 kills to hit a .229. Leading the RU offense was Jenna Smith with 13 total kills. Ashlynn Barnes was the winning setter, totaling 33 assists.
Defensively, Silvia Aguado led the way 20 total digs, while Barnes added 12. Barnes, Emma Ponkova, and Caroline Curry with two blocks a piece.
Then, the momentum continued the next day, on Saturday, and took another win. Jenna Smith led once again, with 16 kills. Smith also added 9 digs. Ashlynn Barnes ran the efficient offense, totaling 37 assists and also added 10 digs.
Running the RU defense was libero, Silvia Aguado, who totaled 20 digs. Abbie Smith & Lacey Smith each recorded a block. Another big stat to mention, was Giulia Julve who recorded 7 service aces.
Up next, the Eagles will be traveling to North Carolina, to play AAC opponents, the St. Andrews Knights. This match will take place this upcoming Thursday, September 26th, at 6:30pm.
