KCU Splits Softball Doubleheader with Georgetown
Grayson, KY – Kentucky Christian University hosted the Tigers from Georgetown College for a mid-week non-conference twin bill. Georgetown grabbed the first game 3-6 while the Lady Knights bounced back to take the second game 12-1.
In the first game, GC dropped four runs on Kentucky Christian in the first inning, which turned out to be more than enough to claim victory. The game could have had a much different outcome as the Lady Knights loaded the bases in their half of the 1st inning and only scored one run even though they had yet to register an out. Georgetown’s defense wiggled its’ way out of danger and went on to win.
Game 2 was a very different matter as the Lady Knights posted two runs in the 1st inning, three more in the third, and a seven-spot in the fourth to finalize KCU’s scoring. The Tigers posted their lone score in the 3rd inning but it was not enough to allow the continuance of the contest beyond the 5th inning, 10-run rule.
Game 1
- Victoria Breckler had the game’s best stat line for the Lady Knights, as she was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. In addition, she went yard in the sixth.
- The duo of Kaytlin Leyvas and Katelyn Pavey added two hits each with Pavey driving in a run.
- Hannah Ison had one hit in three plate appearances and drove in a run as well.
- Ashton Blackburn went the full seven innings surrendering four earned runs while striking out four. She took the loss.
Game 2
- Once again, Leyvas had a big hand in the Knights offense. She was 2-3 while driving in three runs and scoring two herself. Oh and by the way, her two hits left the yard in a hurry.
- Pavey also played a huge part in the win, as she was 2-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a base on balls.
- Collecting two runs batted in, a run scored, and a walk, Emma Fromm definitely put her stamp on the offense but she made the defensive play of the game for KCU as well. On a sinking line drive to her left field position, Fromm rushed in and secured a diving catch to finish the game.
- Caroline Donithan went the distance to claim the win for the Red/Black, giving up one earned run on five hits, striking out four and walking just one.
