Knights Softball Drops Doubleheader to LTU
Grayson, KY – The Lady Knights softball team lost two games this afternoon to Lawrence Technological University (LTU) with Game 1 going to the Blue Devils by the score of 2-5 and Game 2, 6-12.
In the first game, Lawrence Tech jumped out to a 0-3 lead through their half of the 4th inning only to see KCU get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. After having their lead cut to one, LTU quickly regained the momentum by putting up a single run in each of the next two innings. This proved to be enough as the Lady Knights were unable to push additional runs across the plate.
The afternoon’s final contest saw KCU score four times in the second inning, which stood as the lead until Tech cut it in half in the fifth. They then scored four of their own in an error filled sixth inning for the Lady Knights. In all, KCU had five miscues and the team just could not overcome the number of runs they (errors) helped produce.
Game 1
- The Knights offense produced seven hits, one less than their opponents but were unable to plate more than two runs.
- Erica Vain collected two hits in her four plate appearances and was the only Knight to get multiple hits.
- With two RBI’s, Savannah Watson’s only hit of the game was a timely swing as she doubled into the left-center gap to send Ashton Blackburn and Hannah Ison scurrying to home plate for the Lady Knights only two runs.
- Blackburn had a hard-luck appearance as she surrendered seven hits but struck out 10 and only walked one in her complete game performance. She took the loss.
Game 2
- Once again, Vain led the offense with a 3-5 game at the plate and drove in three runs as well. One of those swings was a double to left field that plated both Alexis Holleman and Watson.
- Emma Fromm, the Lady Knight’s leftfielder, was 2-4 with a RBI and scored a run.
- The duo of Libby Judge and Kaytlin Leyvas each added a hit and a RBI.
- Caroline Donithan started the game but earned a no-decision as she left the game with the lead. Unfortunately, Holly Handshoe was not as lucky as surrendered six earned runs to take the loss.
