VolleyKnights Lose Close Road Match
West Point, GA - In spite of three statistical double-doubles, the Kentucky Christian University volleyball team lost a tight match at Point University, 2-3 (25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 17-25, 19-25). KCU ran out to a two-set lead in this Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup only to see the Skyhawks swoop in grabbing the victory.
Kristin Upshaw-Mendoza and Naomi Naugler registered 15 kills each in this marathon match with Emily Adkins (10) also reaching the double figure kill plateau. Rounding out the front row offensive production, Delanie Gilliland and Gwen Messer had 7 & 6 kills, respectively. The two-headed setting monster of Hannah Cron (27) and Lyndi Starkey (23) were credited with 50 total assists and adding to her impressive night, Starkey chipped in two aces.
Defensively, five Knights had double-digit dig numbers, led by Ashlyn Funk's 24. Completing her double-double, Upshaw-Mendoza had 20 digs while Anna Cruser (17), Starkey (15) and Cron (13) complete that group … with the latter two finalizing their double-doubles.
The front row defense shone brightly with seven solo blocks and their 16 assisted blocks. Adkins led the effort with two solo/seven assisted blocks, followed by Naugler’s 3&1 and Messer’s 2&4.
Who's Up Next
KCU will play at Reinhardt University on Saturday. The match against the Eagles will begin at 1:00 PM.
